by Dennis Gonzales
February 05, 2008
She has been the Pratt High School Librarian for the past 21 years. Before her career as a librarian, she taught in Holton and Troy, Kansas as well as Craig, Missouri. She received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a minor in Library Science from Northwest Missouri State in 1978. In 1989, she completed her Masters of Library Science through Emporia State University.
She has been with Pratt NEA President and head negotiator for a number of years. At the UniServ level, she has represented Ark Valley on Professional Negotiations Commission and the Member Legal Right Commission/Committee. She has been a member of the first KNEA Bargaining Academy, and served as an interim for former UniServ director Jerry Hall.
Every night when she arrives home from work, her two cats and Austrian red-heeler greet her. She enjoys traveling, reading and listening to bluegrass music. When asked what she'd like to do if she had the time she said, "I would like to learn to play the guitar and the mandolin.
Stop by the PHS Libary and let her know how much she is appreciated! Keep up the great work Denise!
