The PHS varsity golf team placed second and Jake Garrett fifth at the 2008 Wildcat Invitational in Mulvane. The Greenbacks' 328 finished 23 strokes behind Goddard. PHS was one of only two teams with five players under 90.

"It is a good showing for second place in a tournament with bigger schools," said PHS head coach Andy Kisner. "Twin Lakes golf course is an open layout with big, fast greens, which isn't the type of course we are familiar with. It isn't uncommon to have a putt that is longer than the size of an entire green we have at Park Hills. For the most part, I think we adjusted well. Playing on the course, which is located on McConnell Air Force Base, is always a good experience."

Garret shot a 40 over the first nine and finished with a 39 to end up at 79.

Cameron Ford used a pair of 41s to compile his 82 and take 11th.

Danny Mason's 83 (38-45) was 12th. A shot back at 84 was Lane Schartz and his 84 (41-43).

Bronosn Blasi navigated the 18 holes in 88 strokes (46-42) and Tyler Gatz 92 (47-45).

"Although we had only one person in the top 10, our team scores were high enough to get us second place, which speaks well of our team balance," said Kisner. "Our team total of 328 was pretty good, but eight shots over our team goal of 320, which is a score that I think we are capable of posting. Basically, that would be the total team score if four of our six varsity players shot 80.

The invitational had another meaning for Kisner.

"Seeing the professionalism of the military personnel on the base is enlightening," he said. "Also, all activity stops and hats are removed while standing at attention at 5 p.m. as the National Anthem is played base-wide over the PA system."

The Pratt Invitational is Monday, May 5 at Park Hills Country Club.

"We are looking forward to hosting the Pratt Invitational," said Kisner. "Since we are hosting the regional the following Monday (May 12), it will be a good trial run for our bid to return to "state" as a team. Again, I think it will require a 320-team score to have a chance to qualify."
