PHS varsity tennis player Jacob Whitson was defeated 7-5, 6-2 by Wellington’s Brandon Starkey in the first round of the 2008 KSHSAA 4A Pratt Regional Friday at the Blake Tennis Complex.
Whitson, Pratt’s No. 1 singles player at the end of the regular
season, would have advanced to
the state championships if he had finished in the top four.
He entered sub-state with a 5-11 singles record. A single-elimination format was utilized. Players competed in best-of-three matches.
The Greenback was the sub-state’s No. 7 seed and Starkey No. 2. A sophomore, Whitson qualified for sub-state after a third-place finish at the 2008 KSHSAA4A Colby Regional Thursday.
