Turnaround. Turnaround. Turnaround. Pat Stivers has turned the PHS varsity baseball team. In 2007, the Greenbacks were 4-13. After sweeping Haven Friday 12-1 and 12-1, PHS improved to 13-4 - a 100 percent about face.

“It’s important when you are trying to build a program and going from four wins last year up to 13,” said Stivers. The games were pestered by winds reaching 40-50 miles per hour.

“I think it is a good sign,” said Stivers of his team brushing off the unrelenting winds. “Good teams are going to come out in these conditions and take care of the opposition and compete, and I think we did,” said Stivers.

Pratt starting pitchers Stuart Sullivan and Chris Nicholson were impeccable. Sullivan, relying on a swooping curve, held Haven to four hits to record the game-one victory. A junior, he struck out eight and allowed four base runners.

Skylar Angood, who entered the day hitting .571, had two singles and four RBI's. The top of the Greenback order: Nicholson, followed by Brad Richardson and Angood, scored three times apiece.

PHS jumped in front 3-0 after one. They took advantage of six Haven second inning walks and inflated their lead to 9-0. The lone base hit during the onslaught, was a two-run single by Caleb Gillig,

Nicholson gave up four base hits while recording nine strikeouts in game two. The junior made a statement the first inning, striking out the side. Over five innings, he was helped by errorless defense. Nicholson received all the run support he would need in the first.

PHS hopped on top 4-0 then added three runs in the second and third. Freshmen Jake Siroky and sophomore Austin Baird wielded potent bats.
