It was all Pratt, all night Friday at Zerger Field, as the PHS
Greenbacks dominated a smaller Larned team in a 56-6 win.
The Greenbacks improved to 3-1 on the season, 1-1 in MSAA league
games, and 3-0 at home.
PHS grabbed a 14-0 lead after one quarter and stretched it to 35-0
at halftime. In the first half, Pratt blocked a punt and a field
goal as they overcame a pair of lost fumbles. The Greenbacks also
got an interception by Chris Nicholson and a fumble forced by
Darnell Bortz and Bryce Krehbiel. That fumble was recovered by
Byron Landis, and it set up a 30-yard scoring drive in the second
quarter. Quarterback Skylar Angood capped the drive with a 12-yard
scoring run with 1:44 to go before intermission.
In the second half, Pratt ran the ball, and ran it some more as
their offensive line controlled the line of scrimmage. "Kids
blocked well, and kids ran well," Greenback coach Jeff Fuss said,
adding that Larned's small roster made it easier for Pratt to wear
the Indians out.
"Their numbers are not real big and their kids never got a break,"
he said. "We're able to send a lot of kids in, so we wore them
down."
Complete details of the game will appear in Monday's Tribune.
The Greenbacks are back at home next week as they host Thomas More
Prep in another MSAA league game. Kickoff for the Homecoming game
is set for 7:30 p.m.
