A huge fourth quarter rally and some clutch plays down the stretch helped the Pratt High School junior varsity girls basketball team pick up a 31-29 win over Dodge City Tuesday night. The Lady Greenbacks trailed 29-22 early in the fourth but scored the game’s last nine points to get the win. Junior Samantha Snell’s putback with 6:30 left made it 29-24 Dodge City.
Freshman Stormmy Flemming came up with a big three-point play at the 3:28 mark, pulling Pratt within two at 29-27. With 45.7 seconds left, Snell was fouled and hit one of two free throws to make it a one-point game.
Freshman Andi Gripe stole the ball, and with 37.3 seconds left, freshman Martha Ramos was fouled. She hit the front end of the one-and-one to tie the game at 29. The ball was tied up after her second free throw, and the possession arrow pointed to Pratt.
The Lady Greenbacks ran an in-bounds play to perfection as Flemming hit Ramos for an easy bucket and a 31-29 lead with 33 seconds left.
With 20.6 on the clock, Dodge City turned the ball over, and the Lady Greenbacks were able to hang on, thanks in part to a steal by Ramos with three seconds left.
Snell led Pratt with eight points on four-of-six shooting from the free throw line.
Ramos added seven and sophomore Grace Fellhoelter scored five for PHS.
The Lady Greenbacks also got three points from Flemming and Gripe, while Whitney Amaro and Taylor Ibarra each had two. Whitney Tilley finished Pratt’s scoring with a free throw.
Pratt’s JV and varsity girls will travel to Macksville tonight for a pair of games beginning at 4 p.m. with junior varsity.
