Continuing the success of the past few tournaments, Pratt High students broke into finals at the Nickerson Forensics Meet on Saturday, Feb. 27th. In addition, Pratt placed third overall for large schools, after Kingman’s first place finish and Colby’s second place.
Breaking into finals were seasoned varsity members. Once again, Katie Hart earned a first place medal and a spot at State Champs in Original Oration. Also, varsity member Payson Maydew placed third in Poetry, with the honor of qualifying for State Champs as well. Meanwhile, Mav Bishop with his fourth place finish in Prose qualified for State Festival.
In addition to varsity, the joys of the competition for Pratt High included several novices breaking into finals for the first time in their forensics career. Cassidy Hullman and Anna Stotts received 4th place in Duet Acting. Jordi Garrett placed 5th in Original Oration, while Grayson Hostetler earned a sixth place medal in Humorous Solo.
Adding points to the team’s third place award were 16 other events. In Poetry, Mindi Popovich, Anecia Violetti, Britney Woody, DJ Roach, and Julie Veith all competed. Prose included Elizabeth Ash, Rachel Lattin, and Popovich. Violetti double-entered also in Informative Speaking, while Mav Bishop double-entered in Humorous Solo.
In Serious Solo, Corbyn Crump and Anna Stotts both performed. Acting in a duet were Britney Woody and Jordi Garrett. Improvised Duet Acts (IDA) included the following pairs: Payson Maydew and Cassidy Hullman, DJ Roach and Keryson House, and Julie Veith and Rachel Lattin.
After the whirlwind of five tournaments, Pratt High Forensics will be hosting its own invitational meet on Saturday, March 6th, with 18 teams heading to Pratt from the south central Kansas region.
