At the Wellington Debate Invitational Tournament on Sat. Nov. 5th, PHS qualified one of its varsity teams for state debate on Saturday. Elise Coykendall and Hailey Hewatt scored a 3-2 win-loss record, which is what they needed to qualify for state competition -- in addition to the rest of their season record which puts them with more wins than losses.

The two will compete again on Sat. Nov. 12th at McPherson, along with several novices. They hope to gain more experience with new cases over this year's topic which is "U.S. economic and/or diplomatic engagement with the People's Republic of China."

Also competing at Wellington on novice teams were the following: Abby Zang, Maddie Lee, Nick Brown, Kylee Nickelson, Coleton Cummins, and David Chesney.

Amee Hidalgo, who has the most wins of all novices, observed Elise and Hailey in competition, and she'll be observing the two at state in January.
