Bergner Places 2nd at State Soil Conservation Speech Contest

Alesha Bergner, sophomore at Pratt High School, made it to #2 in the state in the Soil Conservation Speech Contest against four other finalists, three seniors and a junior. Competing at Wichita at the Kansas Association of Conservation Districts' annual conference, Alesha gave her speech on this year's theme, "Local Heroes: Your Hardworking Pollinators."

As the second place finalist, Alesha earned a $600 scholarship, on top of the other scholarships won at the local and regional level. Because she came in second, she'll also be eligible to compete in future years.

An interesting side note is that Bergner knows several of the other finalists from 4H. One will be a comp counselor at Leadership Camp with Alesha this next summer, and one has been involved in statewide 4H conferences with the sophomore.

Bergner hopes to compete in this speech contest next year.
