Haskins H.E.R.O.'s
June 01, 2007
Kids at Haskins know what it takes to be a HERO. Second and Third-grade students who demonstrate respect for their classmates or appropriate behavior in the hallways are on their way to earning HERO. status and the opportunity to wear the green and gold t-shirt that shows that they have shown good character. HERO stands for Haskin’s Exceptional Reward Opportunity. PTO and Mr. McCall have teamed up to reward students who show character through behavior, attitude, and respect.
During the first nine weeks, students will earn points toward being named HERO. After the first quarter assembly, the fun begins. Friday will be “HERO day.” Students who are HERO's will have their names placed in drawings for prizes such as games or gift certificates for goodies at local fast-food restaurants.
At the end of each semester, one or two grand prizes will be
awarded to the student with the best records. In addition, students
who accumulate a certain number of points will have the chance to
see a Wrangler’s game in Wichita.
To support the H.E.R.O. program, Mrs. Kuhn will go
into each classroom on a weekly basis to share 5-miniute lessons in
character development. Courtesy in the hallways, respect for
other’s property, managing anger, and many other topics will be
incorporated into the regular classroom lessons. According to Mr.
McCall, “It’s going to be an exciting year for Haskins students. My
hope is that every child will find their H.E.R.O. within.”
