NFL:
The National Forensic League is an organization dating back to 1925
whose avowed goal is to train youth for leadership through public
speaking. It promotes public speaking through recognizing
excellence, both with its point system for speaking and the
awarding of advanced "degrees" for earning points and through its
sponsorship of district and national tournament competition.
Students may earn the right to compete at the NFL national
tournament by placing at the NFL district tournament.
NFL Mission:
The purpose of this organization is to promote interscholastic
debate, oratory, public speaking, and interpretation of literature
by encouraging a spirit of fellowship and by conferring upon
deserving candidates a worthy badge of distinction.
The National Forensic League works to accomplish this mission by promoting debate and speech through a nation-wide network of competitive tournaments and by honoring students for their achievements. The culmination of the year is a National Speech and Debate Tournament.
NFL Vision:
The National Forensic League Honor Society promotes secondary
school speech and debate activities and interscholastic competition
as a means to develop a student’s lifelong skills and values, as
well as the public’s awareness of the value of speech, debate, and
communication education.
The organization serves as the central agent for coordination and facilitation of:
- heightened public awareness of the value of speech communication skills
- development of educational initiatives for student and teacher training
- excellence in interscholastic competition, and
- the promotion of honor society ideals
As an organization, the National Forensic League embraces diversity, interconnection, and visionary leadership. We empower students to become effective communicators, ethical individuals, critical thinkers, and leaders in a democratic society.
What NFL can do for
you:
NFL will train you for leadership: in school, business,
government and the professions. Such training is accomplished
through an extensive program of motivation, education and
competition to encourage participation and proficiency in speech
communication skills vital for leadership.
