Bringing Home the Medals

Kansas Science Olympiad Fairmount Center for Science and Mathematics Education Wichita State University

The Pratt High School Science Olympiad team sent 15 bright students into competition this last Saturday and came away with medals in 9 events.  The competition was tough, with former State winners of the previous 9 consecutive State Science Olympiads represented by various other teams at the regional, but Pratt High School Olympians battled valiantly against their skilled opposition.

Leading the way to the team's small school 4th place finish were a pair of seniors,  Andrew Taylor and Logan Shoup.  They had the highest placing of the day for the Greenbacks, an overall 2nd place finish in Fermi Questions.  Other notable finishes include:  3rd place finishes in Scrambler-Greg Jones, Designer Genes-Bronson Blasi and Catherine Pearce, Disease Detective-Emma Shrack and Josh Slief, Ecology-Emma Shrack and Jill Aramowicz, and 4th place finishes in Boomilever-Wes Siedel and Ryan Will, Experimental Design-Andrew Taylor, Will Shoup and Andrea Clarkson, and Rocks & Minerals-Jill Aramowicz and Greg Jones.  Two other competitors who embodied the spirit of the team by taking on the toughest events and maintaining the most positive attitudes included Ben Eastes and first time participant Hayley Henry.

As the sponsor of the team I would like to extend my gratitude to the parents, administration, teachers and students that encourage and support the science team's effort before, during and after competition.
