COVID Update - July 15, 2020

15 July 2020

Greenback Family,

This is an update regarding the Governor’s Executive Order to delay the start of school until September 8th.  We will review our school calendar and develop recommendations for our Board of Education that put us in compliance with the Executive Order and the school attendance requirement (1,116 hours for a school year).

I know our students are ready to be back.  Parents and students understand we will have protocols to increase health and safety during this pandemic.  I appreciate the support our community offered last night during our parent forum—Pratt is tops.  Yes, the delay can be frustrating and challenging for parents, but we will use the time to continue preparations for a logistically challenging semester/year and acquire necessary supplies for following our planned procedures.  We will not see our students as early as we wanted but we will see them.

We will maintain our scheduled enrollment date.  This will help us plan for the upcoming year.  Remember, even if you have concerns about attendance, please register so our building principals can visit with you about options.  With your support we will keep all of our students moving forward and growing.

KSHSAA will release guidance regarding activities and the Governor’s Executive Order may impact their schedules—we simply do not know that answer yet.  We will get that information to parents and students when it is available.

Finally, we know what we have to do to knock this pandemic down.  Social distance, whenever possible, is one key.  I am sure we will redouble our efforts as a state and community and put ourselves back in the Green Zone.  This is a marathon not a sprint.

Please take care.  If you have any questions feel free to contact us at 620-672-4500.

Respectfully,

Tony Helfrich
