School Calendar Change

November 11, 2020

Greenback Family,

We are making a calendar change, which impacts Thanksgiving week.  November 23rd and November 24th will be professional development days for teachers—students will not attend school on those two days, meaning students will be out of school from November 23rd through Nov 27th and back at it on November 30th

Because we front loaded our professional development in August to prepare for pandemic conditions, we did not have our professional development days in September and October.  Using the 23rd and 24th for professional development will give us an opportunity to do some more formal training with our new math textbook series and a writing program.  Our support staff have had an extra workload in order to manage the pandemic protocols, and this is a chance to take a breath and catch up on the tasks that have had to be put aside.

We will also prepare for a possible move to the Orange zone after Thanksgiving.  Again, that is not an announcement—just preparation for a possibility as we continue to monitor numbers and consider the impact of travel on active case trends.  Obviously, our nation, state, and community have seen increasing case numbers and our hearts go out to those who are personally impacted.  Our primary goal is still to keep students healthy and growing while we do our part to protect the wider community.  At this time, our health department continues to believe the risk of community spread is lessened by having our students in school.  We continue to assess the data, impacts on staffing, and work with our health department to do what is best for kids and our community.

Like our Veterans who have persevered and sacrificed for their country, we will honor them by doing what it takes to look out for each other.

Respectfully,

Tony Helfrich

Superintendent
